"Vimto" (smudgey)

Alright guys, so after a solid week of deliberation, crunching numbers, discussing with my family and best friend, and a solid 3-4 hours of negotiating at the dealer, I took home my new-to-me 2009 Volvo C70 T5 yesterday. I absolutely love it, its my first 2-door, first convertible, second Volvo (after my 2005 S80 T5) and seems to be the perfect combination of everything I wanted in a vehicle - quick, luxurious, fun, well made, and yet still fairly practical, with the top up there is a large trunk and the backseat will fit real humans as long as they have average-or-smaller legs.
The car has 51k miles and a spotless history. I have a few little concerns that I’m hoping I may find a resolution for soon and then I’m hoping I can get into preventative maintenance.
First is minor - there is a rattle at idle that I have isolated to be coming from one of the interior dome lights. If you press on the plastic protecting the bulb inside, the rattle temporary goes away. Anything I can do about it?
Second, there is a constant level of static with an aux cord inserted. This car has the Dynaudio sound system so there is no USB input. Is there anything I can do about that?
Lastly, this morning the car was reading tire pressure low (I tracked it down to be driver’s side rear) and the car has a bit of steering wheel shake at certain speeds, so I’m going to put some air in it and get the wheels balanced tomorrow. The tires look brand new, but they’re ‘PrimeWell’ brand which I can’t imagine is top quality.
I am already entirely in love with the car as is, top up or top down, but it would make it that much better if I could rectify these few issues.
I’m so glad to be back in a Volvo, especially one this nice - I believe it MSRPed for nearly $48,000 with the backup sensors, proximity key/keyless drive, and more. Absolutely a keeper.

the light: clear tape.
the static: turn down the volume on the stereo and turn up the volume on your device.
the tires: LOL wut? primewall? bleh. I’ll tell them to replace them with michiliens or something

Will definitely try both of those tips. And yeah, the tires have got to go, which is a shame because they look new.

Only if they’re giving you problems like excessive road noise or if they are causing the wheel shake. Otherwise, use them up. No need to throw away money, eh?
Congrats! Great choice of a cool car!

All I know is that I switched every car to synthetic oil from my ‘87 300D on ... maybe that’s a consideration.

First of all, how very rude not to post pictures of that beautiful interior. Those center consoles are gorgeous, especially in wood.
Take the light down and put some foam passing behind it or put some felt tape in contact areas.
I don’t know anything about this audio systems.
Those tires are mediocre at best. See if you can get someone to road force balance them and check to make sure the wheels aren’t bent. But I wouldn’t bother replacing them unless they’re causing a problem.

Nice! I always had a soft spot for the C70 (who am I kidding, I love all volvos); how’s the auto transmission in this one? I don’t recall, is it a 5-speed?

Thank you for the advice. And it’s the Calcite interior with a silver center console...will get a picture tomorrow when the sun shines again. I just noticed driving home this evening that there is soft green lighting behind the floating center stack. Love it.

Thank you! It is a 5-speed automatic. It seems well-calibrated to the engine, as if it was geared to shift right as the turbo has spooled up after stepping on the gas so that the power really kicks you back in your seat, when you aren’t stepping on it, you don’t feel a thing as it seamlessly transitions between gears. 70mph is around 2200 rpm with the top up and A/C off, pretty good.

Any time. You should try to get a picture of that lighting, I haven’t seen it before.
A slushbox can be fun, too!

Please call Kmart because I think they are running low on Chinese PrimeWell and Capitalist Running Dog tires.
